Video Interview of Me by Brent Brooks of BlankStage
A brief interview about what my business does, network marketing, the power of Improv and the upcoming ARC Open House (see post below).

THE ARTISAN RESOURCE CENTER: SPRING OPEN HOUSE

Brent is a very good friend of mine at BlankStage Productions at the Artisan Resource Center. I have taken several Improv classes there and love it. The Artisan Resource Center is awesome too. A great place to view and purcahse custom art. Everything from furniture to paintings to photography.

My plan is to get a gaggle of people together for a wine tasting at 3pm at the Marietta Wine Market and then escort the group from there to the Artisan Resource Center. I'll be sending an eVite out for this, so if you're interested, let me know and I'dd add you to this list. '

The formal press release is below:

Discovering Something New

Scavenge your way through the Artisan Resource Center Saturday April 19, as you just don’t know what you might find! From paintings to birdhouses, photography to monster special effects, fabric design to jewelry making, the center boasts an impressive list of artists . Located a mile south of the Big Chicken, most people don’t know the bustling complex even exists. “We are kind of hidden behind the Easy Rental, next to the Marietta Bowling Alley” says landlord Rip Potter, a fellow artisan.

When you visit this year expect something a little different as the Artisans have devised a unique way for each interested patron to interact with each studio: an interactive scavenger hunt is the newest idea for this spring’s event. In addition each studio has been challenged to be more interactive. Some will be sending video e-mails, others offering mini workshops, still others showcasing their portfolios while demonstrating the tools of their craft.

Throughout the day expect free give aways from participating studios along with food and beverages, live performances and more. The center itself is considered one Marietta’s best kept secrets. That an artisan conclave exists off of the congested Cobb Parkway remains an enigma. But once you meet landlord Rip Potter and his wife, Jefflyne, you begin to understand and appreciate their unique vision for attracting artists of various trades. But don’t let them fool you! Many of the artisans are well established, regularly carving out work from both private commissions and larger commercial entities.

Friday, April 18th, 6-9pm - opening night reception
Saturday, April 19th, 10-8pm
585 Cobb Parkway, Marietta Ga. 30060

Executive Briefing: Break the Rules & Close More Sales, Feb 27
A business colleage from the Sandler Sales Institute is conducting this:

Dear CoE Members,

I wanted to forward this along to you.  It is an invitation to my Feb. 27th Executive Briefing: Break the Rules & Close More Sales.  Maybe you know of someone who's striving to grow their business and looking for an "edge" when it comes to selling, but they sometimes get frustrated by...

    -  Needing to sell, but not wanting to sound or act like a salesperson.

    -  Prospects who won't lower the "wall" long enough to hear about the good stuff you can do for them.

    -  Prospects who ask for a lot of information, seem interested, get pricing and then...they won't return their calls or email

    -  Then the Owner or Salesperson is left feeling like a pest after they've done a lot of good things for the prospect.

The workshop is complementary to people who are serious about increasing sales and DECREASING "chasing" after prospects.

How To Introduce Us?  Send them this email and ask them if they would like an invitation or if they'd want to take an easy 10 minute call from me and we'll see if it would be a good investment of their time.   They can also register on-line at the link at the bottom of this email.

Thank you.

How Does the Nex Tax Law Affect You? (from Ellen Springer, my CPA)

Do you want to know how the new $152 Billion Stimulus Law will affect YOU?

Read this Special Report from "The Extroverted CPA' to assist you with your 2008 tax planning.

In an effort to boost the U.S. economy, Congress passed the Economic Stimulus Package Act of 2008 on February 7. The legislation will provide tax rebate checks to about 130 million households, starting sometime in May.

The package also contains business tax incentives and help for distressed homeowners. Here are the major provisions in the law.

Single individuals may be entitled to receive a one-time tax rebate of up to $600; joint filers may qualify for up to $1,200. The rebate amount begins to phase out for higher-income taxpayers, beginning at $75,000 of adjusted gross income for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers (based on 2007 tax returns).

People who don’t pay income taxes may qualify for $300 rebates if they had at least $3,000 of earned income or tax liability of at least $1 in 2007. Social security income and federal payments to disabled veterans and their widows' count as earned income for rebate purposes.

Those who qualify for the basic rebates are also eligible for an additional $300 for each dependent child under age 17.

Businesses may qualify for 50% bonus depreciation on qualifying new equipment purchases in 2008.

The Section 179 expensing limit for 2008 is increased from the previous $128,000 to $250,000 and the 2008 phase-out threshold is increased from $510,000 of total equipment purchases to $800,000.

The loan limits for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Housing Administration are increased; a provision intended to assist taxpayers during the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

If you need further details on the new law as you do your personal and business tax planning for 2008, please contact us.

The 80/20 Principle

I recently read a review in the Atlanta Business Chronicle (ABC) over a book called "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferriss. I just ordered the book from Amazon. I'll post my review of it here shortly.

Anyways, the ABC review goes on to indicate that much of Timothy's inspiration for his book came from Vilfredo Pareto, an Italtion econimist. Pareto came up with the 80/20 principle, a concept that many of us in business use today - especially in sales and marketing. So I did a little research and found these articles interesting.
